Avatar: Fire and Ash ignites the New year box office, soaring to $760 million globally

Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third chapter in James Cameron’s epic Avatar franchise, is proving its staying power at the global box office — even beyond the initial release weekend. The film topped the box office charts for the second consecutive weekend, showing remarkable audience demand during the holiday season.

According to recent box office data, Fire and Ash added another $64 million domestically this weekend, bringing its North American total to over $217 million. International markets contributed roughly $181 million, pushing the film’s global gross to an estimated $760 million so far.

One reason industry watchers are impressed is how well Fire and Ash is holding compared with Avatar: The Way of Water. In its second weekend, the new film experienced only a 28 percent drop from its opening weekend — a much smaller decline than The Way of Water saw in the same period. This suggests strong word-of-mouth and audience interest worldwide

The story continues the journey of Jake Sully, Neytiri, and the rest of the Sully family as tensions rise on Pandora and a new, fire-worshiping Na’vi tribe enters the conflict. The high-impact visuals and narrative stakes appear to be drawing moviegoers back to theaters, even weeks after launch.

How the Market Looks

While Avatar: Fire and Ash leads the charts, it’s sharing the spotlight with other holiday box office successes. Disney’s Zootopia 2 remains a strong performer in its fifth weekend of release, bringing in about $20 million domestically and maintaining momentum as one of the year’s biggest animated hits.

Other films, such as A24’s Marty Supreme and the thriller The Housemaid, also appear in top box office rankings, highlighting a competitive marketplace during the holiday season.

What This Means for Avatar’s Future

Avatar: Fire and Ash hasn’t just debuted — it’s stuck at number one across multiple weekends, a sign of broad audience appeal. If the film continues this trend, it’s on track to join its franchise predecessors in crossing the billion-dollar mark globally, further cementing Avatar as one of the highest-grossing series in cinematic history.

For now, Fire and Ash stands as a testament to James Cameron’s continued ability to draw audiences into immersive worlds and blockbuster storytelling well into the 2020s.
